Mike...
I would rather take a chance on the wood, than lose it all together. Daniel has some techniques to deal with preserving the wood if/when it starts to turn, so I have options against eventualities... not to mention.... a lost limb is just a fabulous reason to make a hollow should the need arise....
Every lost branch on a tree is a styling opportunity which should not be squandered.
Thank you for the thoughts on the repotting. I'll keep all of that in mind. I certainly have no issue with exercising patience with the roots if the spring shows a lack of healthy roots.
I have watered this tree and the drainage is appropriate btw... For a tree of this size... the timing of the water flowing through the pot was exactly what I would expect.
It's very nice to have an experienced local perspective.... thank you so much for that.
As to your friend/acquaintance who is ill... maybe you could tell him that you think it has found a good home... and that it will be cherished. That may just brighten his day.
Kindest regards,
Victrinia
