I should warn you about akadama in warmer climates, a guy i know just south of me had about 300 black pines in training pots all in akadama, one day they just started dieing, come to find out the akadama had been broken down by the hot temperatures and just basically turned into clay which in turn choked the roots from oxygen, yet i don't see having a problem if you go with baked akadama, and repot atleast every year or two,
