One suggestion which I have done with my olives and I believe you should do with yours is to bury the root base and plant in an open mix. This will develop that side roots and make the nebari much better. At the moment it looks like it is large buttress sitting above the soil level when the edge of those buttress should have roots all around it. I'll try and show you what I mean by this.
