Formal Upright Juniper

On another forum last June I posted a Foemina juniper that had been on my benches for a few years but I had never done anything with it. I did not originally stayle the tree and it was given to me by a friend. The tree was hard wired into the clay pot and was in terrible condition. In the before pictures you will note a very healthy albeit over grown bush. The condition the tree was in whan I got it was not this good.

In June I decided to start doing some work to the tree. It had set long enough. The tree was an upright tree alright but had a small bend in the trunk on the best view of the trunk. The tree has a large shari on the front I did not do. It is OK and will add much interest to the trunk when its finished.

The tree was wired over hard with a block of wood as a fulcrum and the trunk was bent staright with a clamp. The top wire was put on and the tree was pruned and wired for shape as a rough styling. The pruning was done hard, almost back to the point that the green was only 1/4 inch past the dead needles. This induces a very large flush of buds on healthy junipers.
