I have 3 tropicals ....and none I'd bother to make a post about. (1 I'm not even positive is going to root before winter.)

I would think that keeping the tree wet is a function of the soil components. You build the soil in such a way that it gives the tree what it needs ...whether in a traditional ceramic pot or a pond basket. If your tropicals need more moisture in a pond basket, then make your soil a little more moisture-retentive.

I've seen some awesome baldies sitting 3-4 inches deep in water. I think if thats the route you're going, a pond basket is ideal for putting your bald cypress in.

I've also read studies that suggest that bald cypress grow faster in drought conditions than flood conditions. Do with that what you will.

As I recall, Dale Cochoy (I believe it was him) either recommends highly or sells a book dealing with Bald Cypress that sounds like its worth reading.
