Hi Karl,
My only problem with the steepness is that the angle calls attention to the origin of the branches, which are kind of in the wrong places, and their thin size at this time.
Were it not for this, I don't think the extreme angle of the branches would be a big problem. If you follow the lines back up to the trunk, I think you'll see what I mean.
