BEND ME TWIST ME

THE JOURNEY OF 200 DESERT ASH
23/07/07
GROUP PLANTINGS AND FORESTS

Here are some photos out of the box and naked. This is one mass of roots. Looking at it closer now I am not happy with the depth and perspective of this composition, so a couple of change’s need to be made.

We start by giving the surface and edge’s a good pressure hose to enable a good look at what the roots are doing. With a pinching motion I begin to pluck away the excess fibrous roots on the surface and cut away any roots that are either growing too high or crossing each other.

So what about the whole idea of fusing the roots into one big pad? Not this time, instead I will dissect it into 4 or 5 pads. This will allow me to make some changes as well as detail and reduce the roots a little more. I reduce the pads by taking 25 to 30 % more off from the bottom of the pad. All this is done by either saw or scissors.

Then it’s time to re pot and position the forest. Cut and poke to make room for new tree positions. A fresh bed of soil position all your portions and fill in with more fresh soil and eagerly await for another year to see where this forest will lead us. At some stage I will do some pruning and wiring and will update a photo.

Any questions please fire away.
