San Jose' #3
This tree is one that I bought from a local man who lived in Spring Hill, just up the highway from here. He used to grow nursery stock for the bonsai trade. He was an older gent and a few years ago had to quit due to health problems so he had a big clearance sale.
I must have purchased close to twenty 3 gallon sized San Jose' from him for $5. bucks each. They had decent caliper trunk but needed a lot of training. I have had this one about 4 Years now. Had to wire the trunk up as they tend to grow up a short distance and then make a 90 degree curve. This one included. many of them would have made nice cascades for that reason too. I am guessing that these trees were probably 10 years old or older when I bought them. They don't look like much before they get to be 10.
This one is also over potted but now that the drip system is set up, it will be repotted to a smaller pot next spring. I might chop the top to bring up a new leader and try to get more taper higher up on top....maybe
I have half a dozen more of the trees I bought from this man but have sold or given away most of them. I love them but am moving more towards the malpigghias, barbados cherry and singapore holly. Next time they are in full bloom, I will grab the camera again.....if I have time.
