Last picture until spring
I prepaired the groove up the back of this piece of wood and have attached it to a live shimpaku limb. This long fall growth is ideal for doing this. So for now my my phoenix graft will spend the winter and maby next year growing in the top of its parent tree. I have 5 buds to work with. AS they grow I will prune them and wire them for shape and placement so that when I airlayer this graft off of the parent it will go directly into a bonsai container. here is the picture
