Hi:

Been a while since I updated on my seeds.

I forgot about the stratified seeds until April, smile.

We decided we finay needed the crisper drawer back, smile again.

Could not see any thing in the plastic bags so I figured it was a bust.

As I opened one of the bags I saw some green.

I carefully removed the contents ad discoverd a 6 inch root attached to the rudimentry leaves of a plant!

I planted it immediately and nutured it for several months.

Turned out to be an acer seedling.

Still have it it is starting to harden off in the lower trunk and has to palmatum leaves left.

It has had a few issues , bugs in the soils, blight on the leaves earwigs but I have managed to keep him alive .

I studied after the stratification that the really best way to germinate the JM seeds is to get them as fresh as possible and do not through out the seedbed the first year as they may germinate for a couple years after seeding.

I would tend to agree and would also have more confidence in the hardiness.

As these were from a nice cultivar in my yard I am aware that the genetic profile will yield only an acer palmatum or bloodgood but am pretty happy to keep nuturing this one.

I will have to air layer my three different culivars if I want the true plant.

Apresent I am airlayering a JM that I got as nusery stock.

Someone named numbaten devised an excellent airlayering method I felt confident enough to try.
