Actually I am getting more and more "into" the little ones - which is due to a few reasons:
- I like the gardening/growing aspect of bonsai - so I like to grow up from cuttings and not cut down from big trees. I want to grow not buy.
- I don't have a lot of access to natural Yamadori - but I do find a fair number of Urban Yamadori - but they are typically small, like the two cotoneasters.
- I don't have a lot of space to grow big trees in...

Jeremy,i too prefer the little ones and I share your ideas as regards growing not buying etc. But you can also make some really neat Mame/shohin from large plants chopped back really hard.
