Tridents are easy and reliable,
Japanese (palmatum) look wonderful.
I have just got some Acer Palmatum ( Deshojo ) and they look great too but are very young ( Sticks in Pots at the moment)
I also 4 different varieties of Acer Pamatum ( Dissectum), or Lace Leaf Maples but are also now just sticks in the ground, but all in a few years will look magic. Any variety of lace leaf is expensive here for a decent size example.
I think I actually prefer the Deshojo for its changing leaf colours through the
growing season, and the nice red trunks.
