o.K. Here is a pic of a leaf just coming out on one of my alder. I am not fammilar with the alder family flowers but in my opnion the alder leaves are far more symetrical in pattern than the winter hazel I have. Also, we could determine the size of the leaf, as alder are waaayyyyy bigger, but I am pretty confident it is a winter hazel. (sorry about the fuzziness. I cannot get it to go away) At this time of year hazel leaves are generally a darker green than the alder.
