Larch repot question

Greetings, I have a decision to make and would like some input from those who possible have been there before. Here is my 'problem'. I have two collected American Larch that are dormant. I've decided (with advise last fall from David Easterbrook) to join the two as one planting this spring. At this time one is experiencing bud swelling the other is not. I know the best time to repot Larch is when the buds are swelled and just before they open.

It appears that the larger tree will open first, being it is swelling. The smaller tree appears still dormant. I will be going to a repotting group this Sunday at my local club and if the larger tree is indeed ready will be doing the deed.

Obviously the question to those in the know is....I am likely to be successful? What can I do to improve my odds. and yes...I will try and photo document the event.

Jay

note---- corrected spelling above
