Wood Training Pot

Just for your amusement I thought I would show you the fruits of my weekend labors. A wood training pot for a pine of mine.

Yes I had help with this...

It's made from scrap cedar 2x6 and 5/4 board, and scrap 3/4 in. subfloor plywood I had. It measures about 19 in x 19 in to the outside trim. The box is all routered and joined. It was a lot of fun to make. Probably more work than most training pots, but it seemed nice to make it attractive as well as functional. It's great when you have the right tools for the job...

To give an idea on the process the 2x6's were ripped in half... then planed to about 1/2 inch thick... the boards were dado'd with 3/4 grooves so the base of the pot would be fitted together. The feet were cut then routered with an edge for visual interest. The top rail was cut to about 2 inches wide, also dado'd with a groove to fit the walls and then routered once it was all glued and nailed together. And of course the whole thing was sanded at different stages in the building of it. I decided not to paint this one or seal it. I want to make more. I'll probably experiment with how best to seal the inside of the pot when next I try.

Yours most kindly,

Victrinia
