Well, I hope there is nothing going on "behind the scenes" that I do not now about. I did participate in the discussions that led to this idea, we were kicking around different thougths and ways of doing this.

But I can give you my word that there was no other purpose than just to create some excitement and a fun game among bonsai enthusiasts. There were no vendors or any commercial enterprise involved whatsoever. Just us, hobbyists.

Now we are in the stage of contacting sponsors to offer prizes. This is the hard part.

As usual, Bonsai Today graciously offered some prizes that we posted on the website. Hopefully, we can find some more sponsors.

Everything else is up in the air. We don't know what the quality is going to be. Hopefully, not too bad. People who can benefit the most, are going to be the artists with winning trees. The whole bonsai community will know about their accomplishment, and this hopefully helps them in their future career as artists. For the rest of us, it will be just fun to follow the whole thing.
