OK Chef, Here is my two cents. I tried it for two years, both the original program and the amended program on both conifer and deciduous. I was not impressed, it actually hurt my deciduous trees. I will give you what I now have used for the 4 years. This method is the same principal but is a lot less work and for me has been exceptional.
Start out with your normal organic time released cakes, bio gold, Green Dream etc....
If you don't like organic cakes use Osmocote. Alternate weekly feedings with Miracle Grow and fish emulsion as a supplement to the cakes. I also include a dose of Micro Max to supplement the plants need for trace elements. Go
