I haven't experienced any thing this species won't take except hard pruning. They do lose all their leaves unlike Chinese elms in temperate climates. They respond well to pruning but do not like to be cut back too close. I like to leave two pairs of leaves rather than just one pair. I have seen them dry up and wither when cut back too hard. Sort of like Hokkaido and Seiju. Other than that they are great plants.
