Texas Scarlet Flowering Quince

This is my Texas Scarlet flowering quince, just springing into bloom. Typically, its first flowers appear in January, and it continues blossoming until the end of August. This year, the first flower open was a single, small pink flower on one sucker on the left side of the tree, down near the soil. Last year, this sucker had scarlet flowers of normal size. At first, I thought the flower would flush to its usual scarlet, as I have seen happen in other instances, but it has been this way for two weeks. I thought this was interesting and photographed it today to document it, and brighten the winter.
