Rips, when you make it up to Northern California next you need to look up Doug Philips. I think you and he would have a lot in common. He does some frequent collecting of olives and treats them very much as cuttings.

Here's Doug working over the roots of one of his collected olives that has been growing in a container for a year or two. He gets some wonderful trees with fantastic taper this way.
