The wise words of friends and my big Hinoki...

I'm pretty lucky... I have some wise friends here. I take in the things they try and teach me, or what is said in the forum. I tuck them away into the back of my mind, and I mull them over.

The friend I who's thoughts I have been mulling over in regards to my coralliform hinoki cypress, belong to Ashbarns9999.

Ash said to me once, something that went along the lines of...

"Don't get so enamoured of a front on a tree, that you fail to do whats right for the tree."

It's not an exact quote... but I know thats what he was trying to tell me.

Ever since I "found" the base on that hinoki I've been a little miffed, a little vexed, and more than a little stumped. It was a lesson to be taken from Grampz...

"Don't decide on a front until you know what is going on at the base."

Again... not an exact quote... but that was what he was trying to teach me.

My initial reaction to "restyle the tree" was a pretty firm no. I like the tree... even as it is. But I would look at it, and from time to time Ash's words would come to my mind.

I was sitting out on the porch this morning... I had to move the tree up onto the covered deck because we got dumped with 10 inches of snow. So it was sitting on the deck from a perspective I wouldn't normally have. It just so happens to be from a side that would use that base I found to excellent advantage. And as I contemplated it over my morning coffee, I couldn't help but think over that idea of letting my mind see the tree with this front. My mind started erasing trunks, and moving limbs. I got up and moved some limbs around so I could actually see what I was conjuring in my head, and I was suprised. It was actually acceptable to my mind.

So I took a picture of it... and NOT being a virtual person like some of the wizards who play with pictures here, I came up with a grossly rough idea of what would happen if I totally restyled the tree.

It would make Rock happy... because the "unsightly jin" would be gone... It would make MikeP happy... because I could honestly see it turning out to be bunjin... It would please Ash... because he REALLY wanted me to think about the tree differently. etc etc etc...

So I need some honest thoughts... remember think with a visionary mind. What I am showing just deletes things without really moving more than two limbs I slapped a little wire on.

But I desire the input of the group. I do listen you know... (smile)

The pics are shown as fronts and then their bases... Hopefully this thing will load in the order I want it to... In which case the current front is first, with the poor view of the base second. Then the virtual restyle, with the view that would roughly represent the base that would be showing. Unfortunately I can't take a pic of the tree all the way to the base with any kind of true perspective. I had to dig so deep to find the base, that the can it is in hides it.

I did the poll bit... because I know there are a good many people who may look at this but not choose to say outloud what they think. The poll will allow them to speak their mind in a fashion that allows me to have a good idea of the concensus of the group, without dragging anybody in any further than they like.

Oh... and if you pick number 3.... help a girl out and tell me what you think you would do. I can get a good photograph the whole tree from that side if anyone wants me too.

Kindest Regards,

Victrinia
