There was some rot in the main strip of deadwood that I removed with a scraper. Once I got through the rot, the rest of the deadwood was very solid, and seems like it could last quite a while. I have not found much info on these as bonsai, and none this big, so other than my observations I would just be guessing. Also, sawing through this stump was not easy, more like sawing through a hardwood tree than a vine. Thanks for the comment!
