Question Green trunk and soil

I have some kind of green algae or mold growing on the trunk and soil of my Chinese elm. It doesn't appear to be hurting anything, but it's certainly ugly. Any suggestions on what's causing it/how to get rid of it?

The plant lives outdoors in a very warm sunny spot, the soil is lava rock mixed with standard-issue potting soil, roughly 50/50 by volume, watered about every other day, fed about once a week with a weak miricle-gro solution.
