This pic was taken in a Yew mountain forest in Taiwan. It was very common to see yew trees with 30 ft or more of deadwood, and then living growth coming from limbs lower down on the trees. Prior to having seen this for myself, I too had not been n overwhelming fan on deadwood other than junipers. Needless to say, seeing it in person changed my whole perspective.
I will see if I have more pics of trees with dead wood.
