root over rock
hi there ,root over rock generally takes a couple of growing seassons to get right , first you have to select your rock ,(not to soft or it will errode and not to hard or it will not graft on well) then wrap the roots ,long if poss over the rock and secure with graft tape, making sure you have sufficient roots underneath the rock
Then plant the tree with the hole rock as per normal in a garden bed or deep pot so the rock is covered . Then sit back and wait for a couple of years idealy.you can then lift the tree taking care not to kill it ,and clean off the soil to find thick established roots wrapped tightly around the stone .Replant with the correct aesthetic effect , ie as much or less of the rock exposed as required.
Yes they look great but like all things Bonsai ,there is no short cut,,,,,,happy Bonsai my freind .......
