If you go down the growbox route (or even if you don't) you should place an upturned saucer, drip tray, piece of tile or similar under the roots as close as possible to the bottom of the trunk. Make sure you have a layer of soil above the saucer. This will force the roots to grow outwards and will help develop a really nice nebari.
