I had an in ground pond in this area for about 5 years - looking pretty sweet if i dont say so myself. Alas the butil (spelling?) lining started to leak about a year ago.
I found maintenance was a bit of a bugger to do - kidney shaped.
I opted for an easy maintenance pond recently.
This was a simple little job, concrete 400mmx400mm reinforced pad footing.
Cinder blocks and pavers and a nice watertight fibreglass pond.
Had some cedar lying about so I planed off the dings and made a suround for it.
Whole thing came in at less that $700 (aus)
I know it is kinda stark, and I also know that straight lines in a Japenese garden are a NO NO... but this is practical.
Just need to work out what to do in the triangle space - where the sand is.
Any advice - or virtuals would be appreciated. I want to give it a Japanese look - whether this is a moon garden with pebbles, or a soft green oasis, I am not really sure. I definately need to soften that big expanse of grey though.
I am toying with maybe a Cedar or Pine centered along the wide expanse of rendered wall.

I made my own Bio Filter on the cheap - will share it if yall are interested.
