You have a ficus, not a ginseng. Ficus with bulbous roots are often called "ginseng" ficus, because they resemble ginseng roots.
Ficus species often lose leaves as a result of environment change. The tree is adjusting to its new location--It's probably not at death's door. although indoors in the summer isn't really where a ficus tree should be. It should be outside in the sun...
