Actually after the branch that comes forward, the rest are in the wrong places, the node lenght is bigger as you go up, this is a good candidate for a change. a diagonal cut above the first branch, that would leave the second branch as part of the tree being removed is where I would go, but that is a big cut other wise you would remove the bottom branches too( to big) for where it would be going for design, grow new branches would work better. Not sure about layering azaleas, but you if you could layer off the top, and have 2, or go the cutting route, that works for sure, and you could have a bunch of azaleas.But the left, right, left, left ,doesn't work all that well, go for the mame.
