I have tried all the techniques listed here,and more,and I can say,none of these work.I have killed enough plants to say I will NEVER buy a rootbound evergreen,and urge anybody else to avoid them too! The rootbound plant,is already so stressed, that any work on the roots,will likely kill it,even if you give it the best of care,in the nursery pot,at home,for several months,before you work on the roots.The chances are,if you can slice off slices of root,like a salami,and the roots still do not loosen,the plant is already doomed from stress,and the effect of girdling roots.
