A rose is a rose...
So I wound up over on GW for first time in a vrey very VERY long time (and, by the way, I won't be returning, as the pop up ads and other stuff has gotten worse) Anyway, ran across this photo of a rose bonsai that is a pretty good example of what can be done with older material:
