Also, is it okay to take it out and check for rotting roots? and whatdoes rotting roots look like? and do repot after I take it out and check for rooting roots, or just replace it back inthe the pot?

Rotten roots are usually black and mushy--sometimes they stink. They should be removed but don't go doing that without getting some advise on how to do so. As to location, you will have to figure that one out. Bagging the tree will keep it from getting additional water but will not allow it to dry out, it needs air circulation.
