If by "Umbrella Tree" you mean a Schefflera then you can remove all the leaves by cutting the leaf stems. But only do this in the warmer months. After removing the leaves put it where it will get 2 to 3 hours of morning sun, no more than that.
You will see it start to grow new leaves in about 4 to 6 weeks, sometimes less.
Keep it in this light until the leaves are fully grown. They should be smaller than the original.
