Ground layering oak tree

Hi,

Does anyone have experience in groundlayering an oak (Quercus robur)? We have one growing in our yard and the lowest branhes are almost sweeping the ground so I thought it might be worth to try. I'm new to bonsai, just have a couple of ulmuses bought from a mall and a few of potensais repotted after getting them from a nursery to grow more trunk and nebari. I live in Finland (zone 5) so any ideas if ground layering an oak is even possible and if it is..
What time of the year should it be done? Should I "scar" the branch(es) from the point I want roots to form, or is it enoug just dig the branch down to the ground and leave it there? ..and for how long?
We're kind of late from spring this year, fo a month or so. It still hangs around 0'C so theres no horry yet with our (so called) garden. But any advice in advance would make things much more rewarding than trying to find out what I did wrong.

Thanks,
Sakari
