Problems at BT
For those of you who don't know this, Bonsai Today is primarily licensed content which was originally published in Japan, and then published as Bonsai Actual, a spanish language version.
Most of the editorial work is done post translation of the Actual articles. They can need a lot of work since there are a good number or details lost when you go from Japanese to Spanish to English!
Since John Palmer sold the magazine they have had progressively less US based or "original content" articles because John was really dedicated to chasing down his freelance writers and encouraging them to create new content. They also lucked out that several of them could produce good photographs as well.
The current owner is more interested in the catalog and book businesses and it shows. With the proper vision it could be something great, but that might have to wait for when someone else buys them out.
