Hey TB, during my recent trip to Taiwan, I got to see lots of wild junipers, and while they did have some deadwood, indeed they weren't those wildy carved junipers with lush foliage in taiken ten pictures. But on that same note, I was awed by the Yews that grew wild, with tons of deadwood, twisting dead limbs, and yet beatiful lush foliage in other parts of the trees. It was very easy for me to see how people in that part of the world get their inspiration for the beautiful juniper bonsai they carve. It changed my whole perspective on carved trees.
