You might be surprised at the reaction you recieve from some hikers when they see you hacking the tree out of the ground.

I would also find it hard to believe the land isn't owned by anyone. If you start digging and someone sees you, you may become acquainted with the owners sooner than your think...Find out who owns the land. Ask permission--this is a cardnial rule for bonsai collectors. Don't ignore it.
