It's impossible for us to say, without knowing what kind of tree it is. Very few people on the forum live in your area, we aren't familiar with the native species.

First of all, if it's on government or private land, you have to get permission. Don't know what the rules are over there, but here it is a crime to remove the tree, especially from a protected area where hikers go.

If you can get permission, then you might as well try to remove it. There are several really good threads here about collecting trees. Using the search button above, type in "collecting" and read some of the information. Each tree has a good time to collect, so if you can figure out when the best time is to remove it, that would help.
