Dave and I talked alot about Penjing today actually, so it is funny you mention it. His collection is diverse in the fact that he has about equal numbers of penjing and bonsai. There is actually a big difference between the two (IMHO).

I should mention that this is Cham. pisifera (false cypress). I like the composition, tho the next repot will probably not have the rocks hanging over the pot, if he chooses to keep them. I do know that he only started the rocks in the pot to actually hold the raft in place. I like them myself. Here in noreast Mn, it is common to see trees growing from croppings of rock such as this, the glaciers did a nice job of cutting deep into the rock here.
He does thin out the foliage alot in the spring and has no photo record of its history up until today, which is unfortunate. A virtual repot is on the way.....one of the things he has asked me to do. I will post it when completed this week.
