Pictures do show a reverse taper. Even in person when you look at it from the front it seems that way as well. If we 1/4 turn it in either direction, it is actually flat, which I find to be a fault as well, but not as bad as a reverse taper. It twists right at that point just above the base causing it to look that way. I also commented to him about the right side branching where three branches come from just about the same point on the trunk.
From his chosen front, it is hidden and you would never be able to tell. A few degrees up down or sideways, it is revealed. There are many faults to the tree, but for what its worth, a workable tree. Literati was one thought. Thanks guys for the comments, keep em coming, learning thru dialog!!
