I think this has been a great improvement on what was originally bought. The new tree placements are much better, adding balance to the composition. The height reduction is also a step in the right direction too in my mind. The siting of the smaller tree at the rear adds to the feeling of depth and distance, and I'm almost tempted to take a walk along the path through the woods, just to see where it goes.
I'm sure this will improve with age. I've attached a quick virtual of what it might look like with some moss added, thereby defining the footpath and inviting the viewers eye.
