I'm guessing that eposure to all the element could be a problem, not just the sun. You would probably need to provide shelter from strong, unbroken winds and ferocious rainfall. On the upside, i would imagine that pest problems would be less than at ground level, up out the way of ants, snails and squirrels.
This has provoked an intrest in me, now i need to figure out a way to attach my bonsai to that pesky slanted roof and have a go! lol
