But the thread as taken a turn. I was asked if I received suc seeds. I said no, but Ic confirmed having seeds of Japanese black pine that produce pines with shorter needles.
But you are right, exact genetic transmission can be done, but is really something random. Random like any other species propagated by seeds. For example, if I sow 100 seeds of trident maple, ill probably get 70% germination rate. From these 70%, Ill have some that will grow slowly, long internode, big leaves, but Ill also get a few that will grow fast, have short internodes and small leaves. By having seeds that come from a plant with specific characteristics, you get more chance of having these genetics reproduce in the seeds. Funny, but the same principle apply to human, if you have parents with big nose, you have more chance of having a big nose.
