Oh and the crackle, it is coloured after the final firing, just good old indian ink, slap it on then wash it off when it has soaked into the cracks. I have also used other coluur inks to get a different colour crackle, blue looks pretty cool.

Thats what I know is common, to give that Raku look, . Have you "Weathered" any to see if that black lasts? I see many at art shows done this way, but they are "art pieces" and not for sitting outside.
I always wondered that about Horsts, although I think he second-fired his ala smokey raku which would hold the color FAIRLY good outside continually once re-fired at raku temps?
In the past I tried some crackles but unless pretty dark underneath they weren't very impressive. I'm affraid of losing it later if not fired on?
