I would think that once you've mastered the basics, Craig, that artistry is the next step.
Rote without passion is far too prevalent in Western society. It's the malady of millions, who accept rote practise of everything from colour-by-numbers "art" that they use to match the furniture in their cookie-cutter houses to their preference for whatever noise their local radio station is purveying as music at the moment to the mindless observance of religious ritual every Sunday morning.
Without art and artistry we are, all of us, nought but dullards. George Orwell was right, it seems.
