Hi Donna,
Weekly watering sounds like you may have been watering weakly. Soak the tree for at least an hour and then water when the soil no longer feels moist to the touch.
If it hasn't regenerated leaves in a couple of weeks, that's about it. You can scrape the bark to see if you can see any green beneath the beige bark.
