Juliet thanks for sharing your 'experience' with us, I had it in mind to try something similar with ficus next spring. Now I know what (and what not!) to try.
Matt, I know you are only joking (you are aren't you??), but over here they sell 'woven' fig trees in garden centres, comprising 5-6 thin trunks all plaited together. They probably have them over there too. They have their own certain charm I suppose, but they are not quite my cup of tea.
(btw, it looks like the
Korean Hornbeam by Brussel Martin in the
Midwest Bonsai show thread is made from several thin trunks..)
