Forum Star Ratings (Who Rates These Things?)

Alright, I really want to know who is rating the threads on bonsaiTALK. Sure, it doesn't matter for beans, but I'm just getting so darn curious that I've just to go figure this out.

A few recent examples:

In the "General" forums: BonsaiJim writes one of the most interesting, thought-provoking, and intellegent posts on here in a long time to kick off the In Pursuit Of A New "school" thread. It gets one star. BonsaiAl starts a great discussion on Japanese versus Chinese stylings; one star. (Until I complained about it )

And don't even get me started on what is going on over in the "Show and Tell" forum. We've a got a dozen great threads in which someone posts a tree asking for suggestions, and gets lots of comments, virtuals, great discussion, and so forth. Most of these were rated one star until I came through and gave 'em fives. Now they're two stars. Meanwhile we've got threads with pictures of twigs in pots and no responses of any sort that are rated five stars. Go figure.

Who is rating these things, anyway? And based on what logic? I really wanna know. Is it just some sort of perverse anonymous sniping? What's going on here?

So here's my challenge. Next time you trash a thread with a one-star rating, do it publicly. Post a short post to the thread saying "I rated this a one, because...." Same thing if you mark a less-than-obvious thread up to a five.

Baffled,
Old Mister
