Trident Maple Pruning
I am preparing for wintering my maple. Currently letting it grow pretty "wild" in expectation of shipping and repotting just prior to spring next year. I would like to get some pruning ideas so that I don't end up cutting off all of my buds. This is the first winter I have had the tree.
Should I prune now so that buds don't pop up on my long branches, or will it matter much. I am trying to get the tree as much strength as possible prior to this winter, so prefer to let it grow vigorously now, with plans to actually repot in a box to improve the nebari over the next couple of years.
I will be moving back to the states from Japan next spring, so plan on repotting after the move in the spring.
Suggestions on how to maintain the maximum number of viable buds?
