When asked to select a pot that would be appropriate for this size tree, Mr Masumi selected the shallow, green one. (He wasn't asked about color ) When asked how it was possible to keep the tree healthy and meet its watering requirements in a pot this small, he explained that in Japan smaller pots are used for show and the training and day-to-day containers are often deeper. If the tree were to be grown in this container it should be placed in a tray containing a bed of sand.
